"SNIPS", installation at Lucky Tackle Gallery, Oakland, CA 2005

The ‘Everyday’ is relentless. “SNIPS” documents the ebb and flow of existence in the mundane world.  My own hair is impregnated into the yarn as an archeological evidence of physical aging.  The tape plays back mantras used to sustain oneself in daily life, and as the spinning wheel turns, it intones the yarn with psychological history.  Ultimately it is the amalgamation of the physical and psychological being that is put forth into our daily lives.  Like cobwebs capturing existence, the ‘Self Yarn’ envelops the items used in the Everyday.  Through our daily woven patterns, we overcome these items. Objects such as boots take years to wear out, yet our steps eventually make these items of longevity, fugitive.  Ironically, we too ultimately wither, thus emphasizing the importance of being aware of even our most mundane actions.  In order to remove each piece from the installation, the ‘Self Yarn’ must physically be cut.  This act of destruction juxtaposed with birth, further accentuates that one must be mindful of each moment.
